The annual Memorial Day celebration took place this week at St. Anne’s & St. Patrick’s Parish in Sturbridge, MA. It began with a Mass at the pavilion in honor of Mary, Mother of the Church. In his homily, Fr. Alex spoke of how Mary cared for her son, Jesus and how at the end of his life he provided for her care through St. John. How appropriately, Pope Francis has designated this day, following Pentecost, as the one to celebrate Mary’s care of the Church, as her son’s perfect disciple.
Following Mass, the Assumption family in attendance, gathered for a delicious cookout, much of which was prepared by the Lay Assumptionists. It was a most enjoyable celebration of the unofficial beginning of summer!
