Farther Thomas came to spend some days in el Paso in order to discover the activities of Assumptionists in this part of the Province of North America. In the interview that he made, one can easy notice his joy of having an opening-eye experience. He really appreciated the warm welcome of Assumptionist brothers and he enjoyed his experience in the shelter, Saint Francis Xavier. During his stay in El Paso, form March 4 to 8, he has been assigned to take care of the laundry, to do the registration of migrants and also listening to history of migrants.
To say the truth, the ministry of migrants requires faith, passion for the poor, love for the extension of God’s Kingdom and perseverance. Because it is an exhausting work. As migrants are coming in and leaving the shelter day in day out, facilities must be ready for the welcome of newcomers. So, the service of welcoming is done in chain, what makes it laborious and time-consuming. However, for those who are looking for new adventures with the poor, the Shelter is an appropriate place for this kind of experience.
