As Assumptionists, we were grateful to join the Ugandan Catholic community in Massachusetts for the celebration of Uganda Martyrs Day 2026. The gathering brought together clergy, religious, and lay faithful for a day of prayer, thanksgiving, and joyful fellowship. Rooted in the witness of St. Charles Lwanga and his companions, the celebration reflected the vibrant faith and rich heritage of the Ugandan community.
A Prayerful Beginning: Procession and Holy Mass
The day began with a beautiful procession and Holy Mass, uniting the faithful in worship and thanksgiving as we honored the witness of the Uganda Martyrs. Their courage and fidelity to Christ continue to inspire Christians throughout the world. A particular blessing for the celebration was the presence of Rt. Reverend Joseph Mary Kizito, whose participation brought encouragement and pastoral joy to the gathered faithful. Joined by clergy, religious, and lay faithful, the celebration became a visible sign of the unity and universality of the Church.
Celebrating Faith Through Culture
Following the liturgical celebrations, the festivities continued with a joyful reception featuring traditional dances, music, cultural performances, and fellowship. The vibrant expressions of culture beautifully demonstrated how faith is lived and celebrated within the Ugandan Catholic community. The warmth, hospitality, and joyful spirit of all those present made the gathering a memorable witness to the harmony of faith, culture, and community.

As Assumptionists, we were blessed to be part of this gathering and to witness the deep faith, joy, and rich heritage of the Ugandan community. Celebrations such as Uganda Martyrs Day remind us that the Church is enriched by the diverse cultures and traditions that come together in Christ. The witness of St. Charles Lwanga and his companions continues to challenge and inspire us to live the Gospel with courage, fidelity, and hope in our daily lives.
