Spiritual Bouquet - Give the Gift of Prayer This Mother's Day

Dear friends near and far,

May is a very special month. It is filled with fresh breezes, colorful blossoms, warm weather, and signs in abundance of new beginnings. The landscape is changing each day with different kinds of green and a variety of floral colors. It is a perfect time to celebrate life and all the beauty of the earth that spring brings.

It is a tradition that Catholics like to suggest a new name for May, that is, Our Blessed Mother’s Flower Month. In addition, we celebrate a beautiful day called Mother’s Day. Religious or non-religious know, each in his or her own way, how to live, move, grow, and celebrate life from the very beginning, from our own mother. It seems that from the beginning, we can answer any question convincingly by saying, “My mother told me so!” This answer says a lot about the influence mothers have on their children and the whole family. There is an ancient wisdom which states, “Man makes a family, woman makes the home, and shapes the minds of little children. The mother is often the first one to tell her children about God and the world around them. No one doesn’t have a mother. That is the reason why Mother’s Day is a special day for everyone of us. It invites us to awaken the senses within us and truly connect with everyone and everything in the world.

If your mother is still living, you are very blessed that you are able to say how much you love and respect her. Thank her for who she is, for bringing you into the world, and for how she has shaped your life. And if she is gone, thank God for who she was in your life and for the hope that one day you will reunite with her again. If your relationship with your mother is or was strained, please ask God to help you to forgive her even now and grant you the grace to accept and love her as she was or is.

I invite you to honor your mother by sending her a Spiritual Bouquet of Flowers. You can contact the Augustinians of the Assumption with your intentions for your mom, or a prayer and remembrance, or you can tell us how we can honor the women in your life who have been your model of faith and motherhood. The Assumptionists will pray for your special intentions at the 10 am Mass on May 11, 2025, in our community.

Lord God, we thank you for our mothers. Help us to love and respect them.
Help us to be loving children as well as loving parents and spouse, for your sake. Amen.
