Sharing God’s Love in Africa: Magalie Torres-Rowe’s Mission in Nairobi

Magalie Torres-Rowe’s Mission in Nairobi

We are blessed to highlight the inspiring missionary journey of Magalie Torres-Rowe, CSJA, an Associate Sister of St. Joseph and volunteer with the Augustinians of the Assumption. Magalie, who traveled from the United States to Kenya, has been serving with our community at St. Monica Catholic Church in Njiru Parish, Nairobi.

Magalie’s time in East Africa has been marked by a spirit of generosity, creativity, and faith. She has dedicated herself to a variety of ministries:

  • Catechesis for children, including teaching Spanish songs such as “Hola Jesús, eres mi amigo” (“Hello Jesus, You Are My Friend”), bringing joy and energy to young hearts.
  • Workshops on self-esteem and faith, helping children and youth to see themselves as loved by God.
  • Catholic leadership training for adults, guiding pastoral coordinators and catechists in their mission to serve the Church with faith and confidence.
  • Daily parish life, from participating in the 6:30 a.m. Mass to finding strength in the chapel of the parish house, where she “filled herself with God” before going out to share His love with others.

Reflecting on her mission, Magalie says: “Working in the vineyard of the Lord is my greatest joy.” Her words remind us of the Assumptionist call to bring Christ to others through education, service, and solidarity.

Magalie’s witness also connects with the broader mission of the Assumptionists in East Africa, who continue to build communities of faith, justice, and hope. Her volunteer service is a powerful example of how lay people can join hands with the Assumptionist family to live out the prayer, “Thy Kingdom Come!”

We are also grateful to Yunib TV—the communication channel of the Assumptionists in East Africa—for sharing her story in a recent feature. You can watch the interview and learn more about her mission here: Watch the Video.

To God be the glory for this beautiful mission experience! We give thanks for Magalie, for our brothers and sisters in East Africa, and for the continued collaboration of the Assumptionist family around the world.
