El Paso – Dignity Kits
The last month, it has been an honor to meet representatives and leaders of various organizations, who are also dedicated to the mission of helping the migrant crisis. I have seen the tangible impact of fostering involvement and teamwork among our local community.
A few weeks ago, I had the chance to assist a project led by Cheryl and Jack Farrell. Along with their church community in New Mexico, they generously organize a truck to deliver a substantial donation of goods to the shelters and resource services in El Paso. We are incredibly grateful for their time and effort as benefactors for our local communities. They are particularly known for their creation of their “dignity kits”, which contain essential hygiene products personally packaged for each individual. These kits restore a sense of dignity to each migrant who receives them by allowing them to maintain their personal care and cleanliness. This thoughtful gesture acknowledges their humanity and helps ease their transition during a challenging time, fostering a sense of respect and worth.
With the guidance of Dr. Moya, Director of Social Services at UTEP, we unloaded everything in El Paso. Representatives attended from churches, shelters, immigration law firms, and non-profit organizations, as well as local community members who wanted to lend a much appreciated helping hand. Each community was able to take what they needed to fuel their organization and their mission.
After we completed our work for the day, we prayed together and shared our journeys among our various communities and organizations. We expressed our gratitude for the impactful efforts of Cheryl Farrell, Jack Farrell, and Dr. Moya, who established this initiative. This inspiring collaboration not only enables us to continue our work but provides essential resources that emphasize the dignity of each individual served. It was a beautiful opportunity to come together as like-minded people and share our goals, ideas, and encourage each other in our collective efforts.
