The Mission of the Provincial
Our third day of the international session began with a presentation by Fr. Etienne Ratala, member of the General Council in Rome and former Provincial of Madagascar. He invited us to reflect on the Provincial as a missionary who accompanies, prepares, sends, and supports his brothers throughout their missionary journey. We also reflected on the importance of remaining close to those serving outside their Province and helping them return smoothly to community life after their mission.
Learning Through Mission
In the afternoon, we listened to inspiring testimonies from Fr. Michael Kakule Tsongo, Fr. Alain Thomasset, Fr. Erik Samson, and Br. Englebert Bria. Their experiences reminded us that missionary life is not only about sharing the Gospel, but also about allowing ourselves to be transformed by the people and cultures we encounter. Before being missionaries, we are first disciples, always open to learning from God’s people and His work in every place.
Mission Begins Around the Table
One of the most memorable reflections came from Br. Englebert, who shared that ‘being a missionary can begin at the table.’ Sharing meals, celebrating different cultures, and building friendships create opportunities to know one another more deeply. From these simple moments of fraternity, the Gospel can naturally be shared, and Christ’s love becomes visible in everyday life.
Walking Together in Mission
As we continue this international gathering, we give thanks for the witness of our brothers and for the many lessons shared during this session. May we continue to grow as missionaries who serve with humility, openness, and joy. Stay tuned for Day 4 as we continue sharing highlights from this international missionary session.
