Friday’s session began with a presentation by Fr. Dieusé Kaghoma, Novice Master in Arusha, who reflected on the importance of formation in preparing brothers for missionary life. He emphasized that formation does not end with academic studies. Ongoing formation is essential for helping missionaries continue to grow in faith, community life, and service throughout their vocation.
Missionary Testimonies
The afternoon was dedicated to personal missionary testimonies from brothers across the Congregation. Fr. Augustin Tasi of Congo shared how, after only twenty days of Italian preparation, he embraced graduate studies in Rome with openness and trust. By building friendships with classmates and professors, he discovered that mission is never lived alone.
Fr. Daniel Magin of Colombia summarized his missionary journey with three simple words: conversion, handing oneself over to God, and service. Fr. Joachim Ssentongo of Uganda, the first Ugandan Assumptionist, reminded us that missionary life begins with the work of the Holy Spirit in the human heart. When we respond to God’s call in faith, every mission becomes a new spiritual adventure.
Small Seeds, Great Hope
Br. Anthony Khiem concluded the testimonies by reflecting on the remarkable growth of the Assumptionists in Vietnam over the past twenty years. What began with the courage of one Vietnamese theology student has grown into a flourishing mission through the zeal, joy, and compassion of its first founders. His witness reminded us that even the smallest seed, when entrusted to God, can bear abundant fruit.
As we continue this International Missionary Session, we are reminded that missionary formation is a lifelong journey. Through ongoing conversion, shared experiences, and trust in God’s grace, we continue to grow as missionaries sent to proclaim the Kingdom wherever we are called.
