General Treasurer Visits DCR – October 2024
Yesterday (October 19) was the 12th year anniversary of the abduction and kidnapping of our three Assumptionist priests at our parish in Mbau of the Diocese of Butembo-Beni. I had the opportunity to participate in the memorial of the “tragique de Mbau” at the same parish, remembering the 12th year of the kidnapping of our three Assumptionist brothers and the many violent acts after that fateful night. It was a moving celebration. The continued presence of our Assumptionist priests in this dangerous area of the Congo is a living witness to the call where “we go where man is threatened as the image of God”. The presence of the faithful is an expression of their firm conviction that “nothing (neither death nor fear nor persecution) can separate them from the love of God” (Romans 8:38). We continue to pray for peace and an end to the ongoing conflict and violence in this region of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The hills are alive with the sound of….. prayers…. children….. nature! This is what I experienced when I visited some of our communities of the Province of Africa in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Our parishes and formation houses in the area were very simple, welcoming and active even though some live in the most difficult situations. Theirs is a testament of the building up of God’s Kingdom.
