A Mission of Presence in Tanzania
In the heart of Serengeti, Tanzania, far from the world’s attention, the Assumptionists have been living among local communities for more than a decade. Their mission is not defined by short visits or temporary projects, but by presence — sharing daily life, listening deeply, and walking alongside families through hardship and hope.
Hope Primary School, Digo Digo
One of the most tangible expressions of this long-term commitment is Hope Primary School in Digo Digo. Founded in 2021 and officially launched in 2022, the school serves children from some of the most remote and underserved communities in the region, including families from Maasai areas.
The school began with 50 to 60 pupils. Today, only 27 children are able to attend regularly. Distance, difficult terrain, and damaged roads during the rainy season make access to education extremely challenging. Still, the mission continues, rooted in the belief that every child deserves care, dignity, and opportunity.
Building Hope Through Education
Despite limited resources, progress continues. Land for the school was donated by Gotego Catholic Parish. Five classroom platforms have been completed, and three new classrooms along with a small school office are currently under construction. This steady growth is possible thanks to the generosity of benefactors who believe education is a foundation for long-term transformation.
The mission still faces challenges — including infrastructure needs, fencing, and continued engagement with local communities to strengthen long-term enrollment. Yet hope remains at the center of this story. Plans for the future include dormitories, a refectory, safe play areas, and the continued development of a complete primary school complex.
We invite you to watch the short documentary that shares the voices and realities of this mission. It offers a closer look at how faith, education, and perseverance are shaping lives in Serengeti, made possible through the continued support and prayers of our benefactors.
