Gratitude and Service: My Time at Assumption University

Assumption University

As I reflect on my time serving the Latino students at Assumption University from 2019 to 2022, I am filled with immense gratitude for the Assumptionist community. Dennis Gallagher, A.A.’s invitation to collaborate with these students was a call I joyfully accepted, and it has been a privilege to work alongside Richard Lamoureux, A.A., my other Assumptionist brothers, and Deacon Paul Covino.

Through this ministry, I had the opportunity to engage in various apostolic activities with students, university workers, and faculty members. One of the highlights was creating the Encuentro group, where Latino students gathered weekly to explore topics of spiritual growth. The Friends of Emmanuel D’Alzon group, comprising university workers, also provided a space for Christian formation and discussion.

The Latino committee, comprising diverse members from the university and beyond, was instrumental in organizing bilingual masses, Spanish courses, sports, and recreational activities. These initiatives not only strengthened bonds of fraternity and friendship but also showcased the richness of Latino culture as a gift to the entire educational community.

Another significant aspect of our ministry was welcoming young Latinos from St. Paul’s Cathedral for their annual spiritual retreat in preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation. This experience allowed us to support and accompany these young people on their faith journey, providing a nurturing environment for spiritual growth and reflection.

My time at Assumption University was a valuable experience that prepared me for my next step. In 2022, I relocated to the Brighton community to pursue a master’s degree in Ministry and Theology at Boston College. This opportunity allowed me to further my education and training, with the ultimate goal of serving the Latino community even more effectively in the future.

I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Assumptionists for entrusting me with this ministry. May the experiences and relationships formed continue to bear fruit, and may we remain open to the gifts and opportunities that diversity brings.
