Recently, Fr. Benoit Griere, A.A., Superior General of the Augustinians of the Assumption, was the dinner guest of the St. Anne’s/St. Patrick’s Lay Assumptionists in Sturbridge, MA. The festivities began with an extensive array of finger foods while everyone mixed together sharing stories and enjoying each other’s company with great enthusiasm. Along with the local community, everyone was ready for the delicious meal which had been prepared by the Lay Assumptionists. Most noteworthy was the ‘Assumptionist Cake’ which concluded the meal.
Fr. Benoit was then invited to share with us a few reflections which expressed his affirmation of the group and his gratitude for their faithful gospel witness and efforts in evangelizing this broken, divided and polarized country and world. He also stressed, once again, how important it was for the Lay Assumptionists to partner with the vowed religious in proclaiming the Kingdom.
The following morning, Fr. Benoit celebrated the 10 AM parish Sunday Mass which included a challenging homily that called everyone to cherish and nourish their faith through prayer, the frequent reading of scripture and witness to the Kingdom. It was a special blessing for St. Anne’s family to have Fr. Benoit’s visit!
