Chamnong Michelle Omiecki, a Thai-American Buddhist, has been a vital part of the Assumption community in Brighton for over 11 years, serving as a cook and sharing her warmth and kindness with everyone. Her dedication and hard work have earned her appreciation and respect from the community.

The Assumptionist community is deeply grateful to have Michelle as part of their family. Her positive spirit and willingness to learn about the Catholic faith have enriched the community.

Beyond her role at the Assumption, Michelle is passionate about sharing Thai culture with others. As president of the PTO of the Thai school in Raynham, MA, she introduces people to the richness of Thai traditions. One of her favorite celebrations is Songkran, the Thai New Year festival.

During Songkran, families come together to share traditional foods, love, and warmth. The celebration involves sprinkling water on Buddha images, elders, and friends as a symbol of respect, forgiveness, and good luck. Michelle is grateful for opportunities to share Songkran with people of other faiths, fostering connection and understanding.

The Boston International Songkran Festival, held at Wat Nawamintararachutis, showcases the beauty of Thai culture. As UNESCO has recognized Songkran as an intangible cultural heritage, Michelle is proud to be part of this vibrant tradition.

Through her work and volunteering, Michelle embodies the spirit of cultural exchange and understanding, bringing people together and enriching the community.
