At Assumption High School in Nairobi, hope is being built one step at a time. What began as a vision to provide students not only with education but also with a safe, nurturing environment is slowly turning into reality through the generosity of friends near and far.
A Volunteer’s Dedication
Magalie Torres-Row, a dedicated volunteer currently serving with the Assumptionists in Nairobi, has been a steady presence in the lives of our students. Through her time with them, she’s witnessed both their daily challenges and their extraordinary potential. Moved by their strength and spirit, Magalie shared their story with friends in the USA, Peru, and Mexico—and the response was deeply encouraging.
Thanks to their generosity, $1,500 was raised to kickstart the construction of a playground. For our students, this is more than just a space to play—it’s a place where they can dream, laugh, feel secure, and simply enjoy being children.
Beyond the Playground: A Bigger Mission
While this first step is cause for celebration, the journey doesn’t stop here. Our broader mission is to complete the dormitories for both boys and girls. For many of our students, the school is not just a place to learn; it is truly their home for most of the year. Safe, comfortable dormitories mean dignity, security, and the chance to focus on their studies without worry.
In addition, we are working toward building a cafeteria where hundreds of young people can gather for daily meals. Shared meals are about more than nutrition—they build community, strengthen friendships, and create a sense of belonging that every young person deserves.
A Call to Solidarity
The Assumptionist mission in Nairobi is rooted in faith, solidarity, and the conviction that education transforms lives. With every step forward, we see the power of generosity in action. But we also recognize that much remains to be done.
We trust that more donors will be inspired to join us. Your support helps us build more than just structures—it helps us build a community where dignity, safety, and brighter futures are possible for every student.
Together, we are not only constructing playgrounds and dormitories. We are building hope.
