Where Faith Gathers Without Walls
In the village of Kamtonga in East Africa the Catholic community gathers every week for Mass under a simple tent. There are no permanent walls and no roof to protect the faithful from intense heat wind or sudden rain. Yet families, elders and children continue to come because faith here is not shaped by comfort but by deep commitment.
Safety Is a Daily Concern
Beyond the lack of a permanent structure safety is a serious and constant concern for this community. The surrounding area is home to wild animals and the risk is especially high during early morning and evening hours when Mass and prayer services are usually held. Gathering in an open tent leaves worshippers exposed with no physical barrier to protect them.
Children, elders and families attend Mass knowing that their place of prayer offers little protection. Despite this they continue to gather trusting in God and in one another. A permanent church would provide not only shelter but a secure and dignified space where the community can worship without fear.
A Community That Has Already Given Everything It Can
Under the guidance of Father Jacob the community took the first courageous steps toward building a permanent church. With very limited means they collected stones and prepared the ground believing that somehow the work would continue. Unfortunately construction stopped not because faith weakened but because the resources simply ran out.
Why a Church Here Truly Matters
A church in Kamtonga is not about beauty or architecture. It is about safety dignity and continuity of worship. It means protection from harsh weather protection from wild animals and a permanent spiritual home for a faithful community that has never stopped believing.
