Assumption’s third annual Black History Month Ecumenical Service will be celebrated this Thursday, February 20 at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. Leading the service will be Dr. Conway Campbell, Vice President for Student Success and an ordained Baptist minister. (The term “ecumenical” refers to bringing together Christians from all denominations: Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox.)
A highlight of the service is the music led by the Kuumba Singers from Harvard College and students from Assumption’s Chorale and Music Ministry. The mission of the Kuumba Singers, the oldest Black student organization at Harvard, is to celebrate Black creativity and spirituality, believing that Black art is both healing and restorative—reminding us of our past, grounding us in our present, and guiding us toward the future.
If you’re looking for an inspirational and spirited way to shake off the cold of this winter, come warm yourself with the scripture, music, preaching and fellowship at the Black History Month Ecumenical Service! A reception with great food will follow the service in the Lauring Community Room in the Tinsley Campus Ministry Center. All are invited and welcome!
