Binational Mass at the U.S.-Mexico Border

Binational Mass at the U.S.-Mexico Border

– Fr. Ronald Sibugan, A.A

On Nov. 5, 2022, Father Chano Solis Lopez, A.A and I had an opportunity to take part in a binational Mass, in remembering the migrants who’ve died trying to reach the U.S. The altar was set on a platform just above the waters that straddle the U.S. and Mexico. Bishop Mark J. Seitz of El Paso, Texas, presided the mass and was joined by the Bishop of Juarez, Mexico and Las Cruces, New Mexico and other Catholic clergy and religious from Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, and El Paso.
This is the first time that the Augustinians of the Assumption took part in a binational mass since the beginning of their community in El Paso two years ago. Participating in the binational Mass is one of the concrete signs of their continual devotion in praying, receiving and serving our migrant brothers and sisters.
