Assumption University Campus Ministry: Weekly Updates

Campus Ministry - Weekly Newsletter

Campus Ministry - Weekly Newsletter

Hey Hounds!

This past week in Campus Ministry, we began the season of Lent with Ash Wednesday. As students, staff, faculty, and other members of the Assumption community lined up to receive their ashes, they each heard the command, “Repent and believe in the Gospel.” Members of the Assumption Campus Ministry team participated in Boston College’s “Law, Conscience and Migration Today” conference on Thursday and Friday. We certainly heard the call to repent many times as Bishop Mark Sietz of El Paso shared remarks on his experience at the border.

This week, we have a few updates in light of the the second snow storm of the semester! We are postponing the on-campus Prayer Service for Human Dignity originally scheduled for this afternoon to Monday, March 16 from 4-4:30pm in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit.

We are excited to invite Dr. Conway Campbell to preach at the annual Black History Month Service on Wednesday, February 25th at 8pm with the Kuumba singers providing music. There will be a reception to follow.

An info session for the SEND trip to El Paso will be held during the common hour (11:30-12:20pm) on Thursday, February 26 in the Community Room. Additionally, please note that we are rescheduling Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament to Thursday, February 26 starting at 8:30pm in the Chapel.

May we remember that Lent is a time of preparation for Easter, and also a time to ponder the ways we can grow intentionally in prayer, fasting, and generosity. As we enter into Spring break, let us be attentive to our relationship with God, our neighbors and ourselves. Consider participating in a clothing drive to support our neighbors at Abby’s House, joining service opportunities through Campus Ministry’s SEND program with the Assumptionist community in El Paso and locally through the 1904 Days of Service!

Prayer Service for Human Dignity and Life
Postponed

In line with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops pastoral message on immigration and attentive to ongoing national events, Campus Ministry will be offering a Prayer Service for Human Dignity and Life on Monday, March 16 in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit at 4pm.

We will be praying and holding space for all who are being dehumanized and experiencing violence–especially our migrant brothers and sisters. We will hear from members of the Assumption Community as we lean into the Lenten season, attentive to the call for conversion.

We are looking for members of the AU community to read and participate. Reach out to Luis Melgar if you are interested.

SEND trips are opportunities to visit new locations and learn first-hand about the lived reality of communities on the margins. Through the lens of Catholic Social Teaching, we explore the intersection of faith and justice.

Our May trip to El Paso Texas and Chaparral New Mexico will provide an opportunity to learn more about the history of the Mexican/US border and Immigration and the role of the Assumption Charism in this region.

Consider applying for the SEND trip to El Paso, TX and Chaparral, NM that is happening from May 18th – May 24th (after graduation).
