Assumption Solidarity Campaign 2026

Assumption Solidarity Campaign 2026

Each year, the General Plenary Council invites the Assumptionist body to express its solidarity in a concrete way with an Assumptionist community or work in need of funding. The General Plenary Council chooses a project whose specific characteristics make it difficult to obtain funding through the Office of Development and Solidarity (BDS).

Each year, the Assumption Solidarity Campaign invites the communities of the congregation, lay Assumptionist groups, and Assumptionist works (parishes, educational institutions, etc.) to contribute to the financing of the selected project. In 2026, the project selected by the General Plenary Council is the electrification by solar panels of Radio Moto Oicha, one of the three radio stations for which the African Province in Kivu is responsible. The aim is to reduce the running costs associated with the purchase of fuel to operate the generator, in order to improve the radio station’s financial stability and extend its broadcasting hours. In a region plagued by violence and regular massacres of the population, the radio station strives to be a source of verified and reliable information and does everything in its power to promote peace. This project has been in existence for over 10 years, but the Development and Solidarity Office has been unable to secure the necessary funding. The total cost has been estimated at $20,502. The local contribution would be $2,500. The remaining funding requirement is therefore $18,002.
