Luis M. Melgar
It is my pleasure to present Luis M. Melgar as Assumption’s new Director of Campus Ministry. Luis will begin his work at the University on August 1st.
A graduate of Scranton University, Luis completed a Master of Divinity degree at the Boston College Clough School of Theology and Ministry, where he received the Ann Forest Morgan Graduate Student Award for outstanding commitment to the graduate student community and student experience through leadership, innovation and service.
After originally setting his sights on a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree, Luis chose to commit his professional life to Catholic education, first as a religious education teacher in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps in Andahuaylas, Peru and more recently as a theology teacher at Boston College High School. During his time at Boston College, he served as a graduate assistant and mentor in the Arrupe International Immersion Program, coordinating several faith-based immersion experiences for fifty students and managing various dimensions of the program.
Luis comes to Assumption with an uncommon understanding and appreciation for the challenges faced by young people in the contemporary culture. Moved by a clear desire to bring students closer to God, his genuine and joyful presence will be a gift to our community. We extend a warm welcome to Luis and pray blessings on his work with us.
Fr. Dennis Gallagher, A.A.
Vice President for Mission
As I come to the end of my term as Director of Campus Ministry on July 31, I thank God for the opportunity to serve the Assumption community over these past 11 years. I am enormously grateful to the students, faculty, staff, alumni/ae and benefactors whom I have met and especially to the Campus Ministry team, the Assumptionists and the Religious of the Assumption who have been both colleagues and friends.
The meetings that I have had with Luis Melgar assure me that Campus Ministry is in good hands. May God bless him and Assumption University abundantly in the years ahead!
