An Interview with Bro. Binh Nguyen, A.A.

Bro. Binh Nguyen, A.A.

Would you share a bit about your background: family, childhood, early education etc.?

Bro. Binh – I was born and raised in Viet Nam and when I was thirteen years old, I moved to Dorchester MA with my family. My years of middle school and high school took place in South Boston.

How did you meet the Assumptionists? Did anyone in particular have a significant impact on your life?

My Assumptionist roots began when I met Fr. Dinh, an Assumptionist, in Milton, MA. He had   a very significant impact on my life when I began to consider the idea of religious life.

Would you share some of your later education and formation memories?

I studied the humanities for two years before I had met the Assumptionists. Two of my formation memories were when I was a pre-postulant and enjoyed accompanying Fr. Dinh on his outings and ministries. Later, when I was a postulant at St Anne’s in Sturbridge, MA, I enjoyed my walks with Fr. John Franck, A.A. and the readings we shared together about our founder, Fr. Emmanuel d’Alzon.

Do you have any favorite scripture passages?

Yes, the scripture passage that is most significant for me is in Psalm 46:11: “Be still and know that I am God!”

Where did subsequent community assignments take you?

After my postulancy in Sturbridge, I spent my novitiate year in Viet Nam. Currently, I am studying at Assumption University and living at Emmanuel House in Worchester, MA.

How have you experienced growth in living out of your Assumptionist charism?

The Assumptionist charism helps me to deepen my faith, my commitments in following Christ through the vows, and fraternal life in community.

Would you share and happy memories/stories?

Very happy memories for me are when we as a community gather to celebrate birthdays at supper and our Sunday extensive dinners.

What hobbies or other interests do you have?

I am interested in the humanities, philosophy, art, music, and theology. I like to spend time with the brothers in my community and to sit quietly, reflect and to read.

What is your vision and hope for the future of the congregation and /or the Church?

I hope that God will generously bless us with more vocations. Religious life is indeed a good life and gift to the Church.

Is there anything about you that you would like to share or that would surprise others?

I am a quiet person.
