Dear Partners in the Assumption Family,
We will journey into Holy Week and celebrate the Death and Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ. This is a story from darkness to light. The news of Easter begins in darkness, echoing the moment of Holy Thursday when Judas left Jesus and his friends. As Saint John wrote “it was night.”
Looking at the situations in our world, our country, and our people, we recognize that night and darkness continue until this moment. However, we know the dawn is breaking when we gather together to experience the resurrection. As Assumptionists, we embrace this experience with you and with all of those who break the darkness of our life through efforts to make the work a better place for all. It is a bold decision which helps the news of Easter better known.
In the spirit of Fr. Emmanuel d’Alzon who envisioned religious and lay working together to build God’s Kingdom here on earth, we invite you, our faithful partners for the Kingdom, to support us on the journey from darkness to light, in serving our sisters and brothers on earthly pilgrimages, so that they no longer walk in darkness.
We are invited to take on a second parish in the sensitive area of El Paso. The immigration ministries take on a different form. Our religious brothers and Lay Assumptionist/volunteer now go across the border twice a week to be with the immigrants, to provide them their basic need, and lighten their situation through the Eucharist, the only sign of light for them on their dark path to freedom.
Your prayerful and financial support also helps us to sustain our existence ministries both home and abroad, for the elderly, formation of the young religious and young men in discerning processes in their vocation, outreach through parishes, campus ministry, and international missions, especially education for the underprivileged.
Each of us carries the good news and light within us to share and to celebrate. The heart of the Easter message is that you and us, all of us, deeply, unconditionally, and generously help and make the journey toward light possible. Your generosity through prayer, friendship, and gifts of any sizes enables us to serve and bear witness to Easter Joy.
On behalf of the poor, the underprivileged, the elderly, and the entire Assumption Family, I thank you for your continuous support during this time of darkness. The Assumptionists appreciate your help now more than ever. Be assured that you and your loved ones are in our prayers, especially during this Easter Season and throughout the year. May God bless your generosity and fill your heart with the light of the resurrection.
