On October 6, 2025, the Assumptionist community received news that resonated across continents: Father Fabien Lejeusne, A.A., former Superior of the European Province, was appointed Bishop of Namur, Belgium, by Pope Leo XIV. This moment marks a milestone in the life of our congregation—a moment filled with gratitude, pride, and renewed hope. It is a reminder of how the mission and charism of the Assumptionists continue to bear fruit in the wider Church.
Bishop-elect Fabien has long been known as a compassionate leader and a man deeply rooted in the spirit of the Assumption. His years of pastoral ministry and mission-driven service have shaped communities across Europe, inspired young religious, and strengthened the spiritual and communal life of those entrusted to his care. His new appointment reflects not only the trust placed in him personally, but also the Church’s recognition of the vitality, maturity, and commitment found within the Augustinians of the Assumption.
Barely two years after the appointment of Fr. Benoît Gschwind as Bishop of Pamiers in France, the Church once again calls upon an Assumptionist to shepherd a diocesan community. These moments remind us that the mission of the Assumptionists—grounded in fraternity, faith, and a desire to bring Christ to all— continues to shine brightly in today’s world.
In reflecting on this joyful news, our Superior General, Fr. Ngoa Ya Tshihemba, shared a message of gratitude and unity: “This is news of the utmost importance, not only for our brother Fabien and for the diocese entrusted to him, but also for our entire religious family. I give thanks to God for the trust that such a choice on the part of the Church shows in one of our brothers and, through him, in our entire Congregation. And with you, I pray for Fr. Fabien as he begins his new ministry, that God’s grace may never fail him.”
As Bishop-elect Fabien prepares for his new mission, the global Assumptionist family walks with him in prayer and fraternity. His appointment calls each of us to renew our own commitment to the Gospel and to the charism of the Assumption—one rooted in community, mission, and hope. We celebrate this moment with full hearts, trusting that God will continue to guide him with wisdom, strength, and grace.
Together, we rejoice. Together, we give thanks. Together, we move forward in faith.
