A Mission Begins in Faith
In 2006, the Assumptionists opened three important foundations in Vietnam, the Philippines, and Togo. These foundations marked a new step in the life of the Congregation, strengthening our presence in Asia–Oceania and West Africa. In Vietnam, the mission began quietly, with trust in God and a strong desire to serve the Church and accompany young people discerning their vocation.
The First Community in Saigon
After the sending Mass in Paris in January 2006, Fr. Pierre Tran Van Khue, Fr. Pierre Tran Van Huyen, and Fr. Francois-Marie Le Van Khai returned to Vietnam and formed the first Assumptionist community in Saigon. In 2007, Archbishop Jean-Baptiste Pham Minh Man blessed the first Assumptionist house at Tran Van Ky. This moment marked an important milestone and gave visible form to the growing Assumptionist presence in the country.
Earlier Seeds of the Mission
The roots of this foundation reach back to 1997, when Fr. André Antoni and Br. Didier Remiot first visited Vietnam. With the generous support of Fr. Bosco Nguyen Van Dinh, they encouraged young vocations and began building relationships that later made the permanent mission possible. The early community served through student accompaniment, work at the Hoa Hue orphanage, and welcoming young men discerning their call to religious life.
Growing with Hope
Today, twenty years later, we give thanks for the faith, courage, and perseverance of all who helped the Assumption take root in Vietnam. What began as a small presence has become a living community of formation, service, and mission. Together with our foundations in the Philippines and Togo, this mission reflects the universal spirit of the Assumption and our desire to announce the Kingdom wherever God calls us.
A Future Entrusted to God
As we celebrate this anniversary, we thank God for the many religious, collaborators, benefactors, and young people who have been part of this journey. With gratitude for the past and confidence in the future, we continue this mission in the spirit of Fr. Emmanuel d’Alzon, trusting that the Assumption will keep growing in Vietnam for the service of the Church and the world.
