Assumptionists meet Pope Francis

Not everyone who visits Rome gets to meet Pope Francis.

But a few Assumptionists did.

Members of the Augustinians of the Assumption, or Assumptionists, were in Rome recently and had the chance to chat with the Holy Father. One of them, Fr. Vo Tran Gia Dinh, who is currently serving as a Missionary of Mercy, had this to say:

After the Marian Jubiliee Mass on Sunday, the 9th of October 2016, I had a chance to talk with Pope Francis for 17 seconds. I asked him to pray for me and he accepted. Then I invited him to visit Vietnam and pray for ending of the Communist regime. He said he always prays for Vietnam and he is waiting patiencely for a chance to visit. I thank him for opening the Jubilee. He nodded with a smile. The moment will be always remembered!

Fr. Alex Castro also had the chance to meet Pope Francis and said he was “trembling” after the encounter.

“I was stunned,” he said. “I could not believe that I came close as this with the Pope! Praised be to God!”

Here are some photos of the meeting, which originally appeared in L’Osservatore Romano:
